Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia refers to excessive development of the mammary gland, i.e. the breast, in men.
It originates either spontaneously, or for medical reasons (medication, hormone imbalance,…) that will be systematically identified through a full hormonal check-up.
Gynecomastia may be of fatty, glandular or mixed origin.
It causes considerable social discomfort as regards clothing, sports activities and everyday life and may, in the more serious cases, lead to social withdrawal and depression.
After treatment of a possible medical reason, the cure for gynecomastia is surgery: liposuction of excess fat and, if necessary, surgical excision of the gland.
