Skin reconstruction

Facial skin carcinoma is frequent and increases with age. There are several different histological types (basocellular, spinocellular, melanoma,..), but all require excision with sufficient safety margins to ensure complete carcinoma eradication.

This implies that even with small-sized lesions the loss of substance may be substantial and located in aesthetically and functionally sensitive areas (nose, lips, eyelids, ears, …)

Reconstruction will then resort to flap reconstruction techniques, whereby similar tissue is taken from neighbouring areas to reconstruct the defective zone, taking care to ensure adequate functionality and optimal aesthetic improvement.
